Children have a natural affinity for chickens, and visa versa. This is nothing new, as seen in this hundred year-old photograph. This is one of my favorite images in my collection. It didn’t make it into my book, Vintage Chicken Photographs: 30 Postcards because of its proportions, so I’m sharing it here.
The Vintage Hen
Love chickens? Love vintage? Combine the two and that’s what you’ll find here. You might also find quirky, crafty, retro and recipes. And maybe something fun with a rabbit on it. Or a goat. It’s that sort of blog.

The genuine joy on her face as her picture is made with her pet hen is so warming. I love how the twinkle in her eye is showing.
What a great photo of such a happy little girl and her chicken. I love it! Thank you for sharing. BTW, I have a picture of my mom (now 96) with that same haircut!
Clarification: Mom was about the age of that little girl when she had that haircut. :)
I have a photo of my father with that haircut. He claims that his mom put a bowl on his head and snipped around.
Loved watching you toss Topaz out of the box!
You got to see the crazed one!
