This was a premium Valentine. It’s flocked. It’s large.What I love is that the rooster has the cheeky insouciance and yet innocence of a 1950s boy. He’s about to burst the buttons on his pants. He’s fun, but he’s trouble. Reminds me a bit of Twiggy.

It’s not true that goats eat tin cans, however, they do like labels and the glue that they’re pasted on with!

No demanding BE MINE for this sweet little character who says I’d like to be and in an understated way says I’m pretty good. Who wouldn’t want to be a Valentine with this demure egg?

I love inexpensive mid-century Valentines. Their cheerful colors, goofy sentiments, silly, innocent optimism and bad puns, make me smile. For the next two weeks, in this run up to Valentine’s Day, I’ll be sharing favorite Valentines from my collection. Of course, they will have a HenCam theme and feature the species of animals that you see here. Let’s start with a rabbit!

I’ve noticed, in my collection of vintage photographs, that animals, even doted on lap dogs, are left scruffy. Unkempt even. These weren’t animals as fashion accessories, but rather companions that were expected to do the things that animals do. I’m hopeful that after the photo shoot, that this little girl got out of her pristine white outfit, put on her woolen leggings and worn jumper, and went on adventures with her dog. She certainly looks like she’s done with that bow and romper, doesn’t she?
