It was an easy winter and now we’re into an early spring. Yesterday the last of the snow by the driveway melted. It’s the time of year when things green up, which can’t help but make one optimistic about the days to come. On the other hand, it’s the time of year when it becomes oh, too clear, how much work there is to be done in the garden.
This is what my asparagus bed looked like on Saturday:
Obviously, it needed a serious cleaning up. Luckily for me, I have friends to keep me company as I work.
I was out in the garden yesterday too. It’s been a month or so and there are so many weeds! Got a good start on cleaning up. The chickens enjoyed the greens and snails. The bees like the borage so I’ll keep that for a while.
I think borage is so pretty. It’s an annual here, I grow it in my herb pots.
Yes, loads of work here, too! I was thrilled to find about half my irises did survive. I had put a light mulch over them but we had summer in December and the irises came back up. By the time I saw the green peeking, however, they had started rotting. So I took off the mulch, cut off the rot and left them exposed for the winter. That still leaves about 60′ of garden to clean yet though!
Friends are a good thing.
Lovely to see Lily in shot. My Girls love to help very much as well. I was so looking forward to getting on as had no Grandkids for a week unfortunately only dry day was Good Friday then the storm hit. We have had torrential rain and gale force winds for rest of Easter, also no power on Monday. Garden will have to wait a bit longer :(
