Yesterday afternoon and into the evening, forty people were here for my new-traditional Pie Party. Almost eighteen pies were eaten. There was laughter and conversation, and one happy little dog had his butt scratched by four young girls all at the same time. I’ll have photos and tell more later this week, but today I’m busy. My friend, Cindy, is taking me up to Maine in her truck and trailer to pick up Tonka. Hopefully, we’ll arrive back here in Carlisle, and settle him into his new home, a stable two miles from my house, before dark.
The Pie Party was a good excuse to celebrate turning onto this path of horse ownership, and so I decorated the Butternut Squash, Apple and Brie Galette like this:

happy to hear about your horse. i know almost nothing aabout them – other than when i’m around a horse, somehow, it makes my toes afraid they’ll get stepped on!

i’ve read that horses love you back – just like dogs do, only, you have to know what they’re saying when they do. i could get used to that.
i’m sure you’ll have a long happy life with your horse and love him like i did my cows!

A galette is a rustic pie, not in a pan, that is folded up along the sides.

Hi Everyone! Tonka traveled as quiet as could be in the trailer, (3 1/2 hours!) and calmly walked out the trailer at the new barn, let everyone pet him and say, “beautiful boy!” and then settled right in to eat his hay. As sane and trusting as can be.
Good to hear that Tonk traveled well, and everything went well for you too. Since Tonka being stabled only two miles from your house, will you be collecting his waste and leftover hay to add to your compost ?
PS I was wondering is Tonka named after a disney film called a horse named comanche ?
That sounds like the kind of horse that will be a wonderful companion. I`m guessing he is boarding close enough to your property that you will be able to ride him over to meet the rest of his new animal family? Is Tonka used to other animals?
He’s close, but there are a couple of roads that I’d rather not cross. Maybe this summer.
