Black Star

This is a 7 1/2 week old Black Star.

7 week old Black Star

This photo, with her doing a straight-on stare, is not a fluke. This is her personality. She’s bold, inquisitive and friendly. She hogs the camera. This Black Star will be going to live at the nursing home. I think she’ll end up in a lot of family photo albums.

Comments:

  1. I love the young hen`s immature soft pink combs and her`s even matches the tip of her beak. Will she remember you when you visit her in her new home? I guess if you come bearing your camera, she will come running over to pose sweetly for you.

  2. Seeing her & so many of the other “chicks” running around, they all look so grown up. The weeks have just flown by. Especially looking back at your posts. Thanks for all the great photos! Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. I saw you taking their pics on your little yellow stool today! It was so cute! All of you. :)

  4. Awww great photo. She looks s o sweet. Thank you for sharing.

  5. How is the nursing home thing going to work? Will there be a henyard for residents to visit? Or will the hens do room visits, like therapy dogs or cats? This sounds like such a great idea, but I’m unclear on the process.

  6. She’s a cutie! We have 25 Black Stars in our cooperative and they are reliable layers and sweet tempered. And no possibility of roosters coming in the order.
I can’t wait to hear about the nursing home project when it up and running.

  7. I had a black star she was an amazing bird full of personalitly… Did Mr Grumpy get a home?

  8. If I didn’t have my little bantam cochin roo, I would totally plan a trip to Mass. to take him.. I still can’t believe that my little 11 weekold roo is crowing and has been for 2 and 1/2 weeks, is this an oddity or common amongst banatams?

    • I’ve never had a bantam roo, so I don’t know if they mature more quickly. I know several people with cochin roos and they all say how nice those boys are.

  9. he is gentle we had one incident, I startled him and he grabbed the skin between my thumb and pointer finger, and shook his head like a dog with a stuffed animal… He has quite the little bite, but then he must have realized what he was doing and to whom he was doing it to, and he spent the next few days following me around and when ever i would bend down to pick something up he would run to my hand for me to pet him… Not for nothing, I’m ok if he has a streak in him, He is a rooster after all and he has a job to do and im happy to see he will be effective at it… he does seem to get on well with my dogs so thats important because they have to work together to keep the girls safe…
