DESCRIPTION:This 2-hour workshop in my backyard will cover the basics of what you need to know to have your own small flock of laying hens. You’ll learn everything from feeding\, to flock dynamics\, to predator protection\, to coop design\, to what to do with manure (you’ll get to see my composting system). You’ll even get to pick up a chicken! \n$40 per person\, includes iced tea and homemade cookies. \nLimited to 14 participants. Children age 8 and over are welcome to sign up. \nThe workshop runs rain or shine. Cancellation policy — up to one week before the event you will get a refund of $30. No refunds after June 16. DESCRIPTION:Come for a casual chat on the porch at the Complete Equestrian Saddlery\, in Bedford\, Massachusetts. I’ll get the discussion going\, talking about horse ethology (the study of animal behavior in the natural environment.) There is new and insightful research into horse ethology that can help every owner better care for and train her horse. Find out what scientists are discovering about herd behavior\, aggression\, dominance\, leadership\, friendship\, and more. Scientists are out in the field (literally!) and what they’re learning is upending many common assumptions. Let’s chat about the research and how it can help us to better understand and  communicate with our horses. Cold drinks and cookies will be served. 6 to 7 pm. Free!
